Job Summary
Skate Camp Coordinator – Staff must have experience skateboarding and be prepared to lead staff and youth ages 8‑15 in learning skateboarding basics and some radical tricks. Skate Camp takes place during two weeks of summer and staff must be available starting June 8th for mandatory training. All Recreation Division staff have the opportunity to work additional shifts as availability allows and needs arise.

Role DefinitionUnder general supervision, the Coordinator develops, coordinates, implements, supervises, and participates in targeted Community Services programs and activities which includes zoo programs, youth sports, adult sports, summer programs, special interest classes, special events, and other related community activities.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned staff and volunteers.
Class CharacteristicsThis is a mid‑level class in the Community Services series. The principal function is to develop, coordinate, implement, supervise, and participate in targeted Community Services and zoo programs and activities. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of higher level staff as assigned, yet significant leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The employee establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all others contacted in the course of work.
The duties are performed in a recreational facility. This class is distinguished from the Community Services Coordinator in that the latter has lead program coordination, administrative and day‑to‑day responsibilities.
Job Duties
- Develops, coordinates, implements, supervises, and participates in targeted Community Services and/or zoo programs and activities.
- Makes recommendations regarding prospective programs and/or changes to existing programs.
- Promotes and presents information concerning targeted Community Services and/or zoo programs to the general public, the media, and other applicable organizations; distributes information to potential and actual program participants.
- Assists in staff selection.
- Supervises and schedules staff, and provides for staff development and training.
- Leads and/or ensures appropriate leadership of participants in targeted Community Services and/or zoo programs and activities.
- Collects and remits program fees.
- Coordinates and participates in the set‑up and removal of equipment and furniture utilized in programs and activities.
- Provides input on supplies needed, and purchases supplies within established guidelines.
- Completes and maintains various records relating to the operation of Community Services and/or zoo facilities.
- Insures that maintenance and/or safety issues are promptly resolved, and performs light maintenance as necessary.
- Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio‑visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
- Responds to questions and comments from the public in a courteous and timely manner.
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
