Position SummaryThe Division of Science and Mathematics at Eureka College invites applications for a full‑time position in Environmental Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting August 2026. The successful candidate will teach 24 credits annually, advise environmental science and biology majors, mentor senior thesis projects in the Honors Program, and may participate in interdisciplinary programs such as the first year seminar or 10 Essentials science courses.
The position could be offered as a 1‑year Visiting Assistant Professor with potential to become tenure‑track if degree qualifications or preferred experience are not met initially.
Teach 12 credit hours each semester (24 credits per academic year) of undergraduate coursework related to Environmental and Biological Sciences.

- Serve on college committees.
- Participate in faculty governance, attending monthly meetings.
- Supervise undergraduate honors theses & research as needed.
- Assist in recruiting prospective students.
- Propose innovations to the Environmental Science and/or Biology program to meet current job market and student interests.
May supervise student workers.
EducationEssential:
- PhD in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field, or ABD with PhD requirements completed by the appointment date of August 1, 2026.
- MS applications considered for a 1‑year Visiting Assistant Professor appointment.
Desirable: Previous teaching in higher education.
Licenses/CertificationsNone.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Effective communicator.
- Organized.
- Skilled with Microsoft and electronic mail.
$45,000 – $55,000 annually.

Working ConditionsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, or sit. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Work ScheduleNormal academic schedules include classes and labs offered during normal work hours Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexibility in the work schedule is required to accommodate occasional evening and weekend hours, including attendance at December and May commencements and one annual scholarship competition.
