Librarian I/II – Adult Services

We are looking for a librarian who is passionate about serving the Humboldt County community and who can develop and host engaging library programs. The role focuses on programming coordination for Adult Services and managing the Historical Collection in the Humboldt Room.

• Plan, coordinate, and host library programs for adults and other age groups; advertise and promote programs.
• Assess patron needs and provide reference and advisory services.
• Manage the Local History Collection in the Humboldt Room, including selection, cataloging, and displays.
• Coordinate outreach and collaborative events with community partners.
• Plan and direct the work of support staff and volunteers.
• Assist patrons of all ages by answering reference questions.

• Equivalently a four‑year college or university degree.
• Master’s degree in Library Science (required for Librarian I).
• One year of professional librarian experience at the Librarian I level for Librarian II.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

• Experience planning community library programs and outreach.
• Knowledge of reference services, collection development, and library cataloging.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with patrons and community partners.
• Innovative and detail‑oriented approach to service improvement.

• Valid California driver’s license (for many positions).
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

Typical schedule:

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 8 AM‑5 PM and Wednesday 11 AM‑8 PM, with a one‑hour lunch break.
