Coordinator Position at Sequoia Park Zoo
Join us this fall and get outside the box! Our unique after school program is looking for a qualified Coordinator to take the lead in this program at the Sequoia Park Zoo. Coordinators lead staff and participants in planning and partaking in awesome activities - games, crafts, and special Zoo encounters in the wonderful setting of the redwood forest. Applicants must have availability Monday-Friday from 12PM-6PM throughout the academic school year to be qualified for this position.

Under general supervision, develops, coordinates, implements, supervises, and participates in targeted Community Services programs and activities which includes zoo programs, youth sports, adult sports, summer programs, special interest classes, special events, and other related community activities; performs directly related work as required. Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned staff and volunteers.
This is the mid-level class in the Community Services series. The principal function of an employee in this class is to develop, coordinate, implement, supervise, and participate in targeted Community Services and zoo programs and activities. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of higher level staff as assigned, but significant leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
The nature of the work performed requires an employee in this class to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all others contacted in the course of work. The principal duties of this class are performed in a recreational facility. This class is distinguished from the Community Services Coordinator in that the latter has lead program coordination, administrative and day-to-day responsibilities.
Examples of essential functions (illustrative only) include: developing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, and participating in targeted Community Services and/or zoo programs and activities; making recommendations regarding prospective programs and/or changes to existing programs; promoting and presenting information concerning targeted Community Services and/or zoo programs to the general public, the media, and other applicable organizations; distributing information to potential and actual program participants;
assisting in staff selection; supervising and scheduling staff, and providing for staff development and training; leading and/or insuring appropriate leadership of participants in targeted Community Services and/or zoo programs and activities; collecting and remiting program fees; coordinating and participating in the setup and removal of equipment and furniture utilized in programs and activities; providing input on supplies needed, and purchases supplies within established guidelines;
completing and maintaining various records relating to the operation of Community Services and/or zoo facilities; insuring that maintenance and/or safety issues are promptly resolved, and performing light maintenance as necessary; keeping immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems; attending meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviewing publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
responding to questions and comments from the public in a courteous and timely manner; communicating and coordinating regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities; performing other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
Knowledge of operations, programs, and activities related to community services and/or zoo facilities; elements of effective interpersonal interactions with a wide range of targeted program participants; supplies and equipment used in community services and/or zoo programs, and their safe use; basic supervision and training; basic recordkeeping; basic safety policies, procedures, and techniques; modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; computer applications related to the work;
English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation; techniques for providing a high level of customer service to public and City staff, in person and over the telephone.
