Mammography Technician OverviewMammography Technician (Mammo Tech) is a specialized radiologic technologist who operates mammography equipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for detecting breast abnormalities. These images, known as mammograms, help to screen for breast cancer and other breast‑related conditions. Mammography Technicians are trained to perform the procedure, ensure patient comfort, maintain a high standard of image quality, and assist in patient care throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities- Performing Mammograms:
- Position and prepare patients for mammography exams
- Operate mammography equipment
- Ensure proper compression
- Assist patients with undressing and gown
- Perform digital mammograms and additional views as needed
- Patient Care and Comfort:
- Greet patients and explain procedure
- Educate patients on importance of mammograms
- Reassure patients during exam
- Monitor patients for discomfort or issues
- Quality Control and Image Evaluation:
- Review mammograms for clarity and completeness
- Ensure images free from artifacts
- Work closely with radiologists to evaluate images
- Assist in breast ultrasound or stereotactic biopsy if needed
- Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Ensure proper operation, troubleshoot technical issues
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning
- Follow safety standards for radiation protection
- Calibrate machine
- Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Maintain patient records
- Document imaging results and special instructions
- Log into Electronic Health Records (EHR) system
- Collaboration with Medical Team:
- Communicate with radiologists and physicians
- Assist in explaining test results to patients
- Ensure continuity of care
- Adherence to Safety and Regulatory Standards:
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA
- Follow radiation safety protocols
- Adhere to ACR and FDA guidelines

Education:- Provide post‑exam care instructions
- Educate on regular mammograms and breast health
