Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of employees engaged in parts storekeeper duties, coordinates with other departments, and responds to vendor inquiries.
  • Provides input into selection decisions, performance evaluations, disciplinary matters, and other personnel decisions.
  • Orders, receives, and maintains equipment parts, accessories, supplies, and special tools for the maintenance, service, and repair of county vehicles and equipment.
  • Issues and distributes parts and supplies, determines availability of parts, estimates delivery time, and receives and fills requisitions for specialized orders.
  • Maintains and utilizes ongoing listings of purchase orders, arranges and coordinates pick‑up and delivery of orders, and maintains contact with inventory suppliers and vendors.
  • Researches and locates resources for non‑standard parts and special tools; determines feasibility of substituting parts based on interchangeability knowledge.
  • Inspects parts, supplies, and equipment for quality, quantity, and correctness; verifies items received against parts catalogs and manufacturer identifiers, models, or part numbers.
  • Prepares or completes purchase orders, maintains a comprehensive record system on parts, tools, and supplies, and analyzes records for quality control.
  • Takes periodic parts room inventory and establishes desirable minimum supply levels based on operational needs.
  • Determines, schedules, and arranges delivery, location, and layout of stock in storage areas; maintains storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists in budget preparation for the division, monitors expenditures, and prepares periodic or special reports.
  • Identifies and selects parts and tools as requested by mechanics and other departments, rechecking request lists for completeness and accuracy.
  • Compiles information and assists in developing specifications for bids; researches costs and provides related information to mechanics and supervisors.
  • Performs inventory control; checks and reconciles records with appropriate inventory listings and disposes of hazardous waste with recyclers.
Qualifications Knowledge
  • Basic supervisory principles and practices.
  • Parts, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Basic research and data analysis techniques.
  • Standard vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance procedures and terminology.
  • Stock and inventory control, including requisitioning, receiving, storing, and issuing.
  • Recordkeeping and filing systems.
  • Operation of standard warehouse and storeroom equipment, including calculators and microcomputers.
  • Basic purchasing procedures.
  • Basic shop arithmetic.
Skills
  • Planning, assigning, directing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.
  • Training others in work procedures.
  • Developing and implementing inventory control procedures.
  • Exercising independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
  • Preparing and maintaining a wide variety of accurate records and reports.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders.
Other Requirements
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license.
Desirable

Education and Experience

Two years of experience in ordering, storing, and issuing automotive and equipment parts and supplies.
