Position Requirements:
An RN first assistant, or RNFA, works alongside the surgeon in the operating room providing direct patient care. The RNFA requires extensive surgical experience and additional training to qualify as first assistants. May require certification in perioperative nursing or advanced practice Certification. Reports to the Supervisor of the Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with surgical procedures by controlling bleeding, suturing incisions and wounds and intervening if complications arise. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during an operation, assist the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, holding open incisions, stopping bleeding, closing the incision, among many other technical tasks. Monitor patient's vital signs, heart rate, respiration, and oxygen saturation. Proficient in performing and interpreting EKG and assist with Cardiac Resuscitation.
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, with current licensure in good standing. Evidence of current AHA BLS and ACLS is required. Evidence of Minimum One year of current RNFA experience.
