Job SummaryTransport packaged meals to homebound elderly within Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, and Fortuna areas while following food safety guidelines. Operate personal and/or agency vehicles as required to complete deliveries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Deliver hot and/or frozen meals in compliance with policies, procedures, and food safety standards.
- Operate personal and/or agency vehicles to complete deliveries.
- When using a personal vehicle, prepare insulated carriers, maintain required temperatures, and submit mileage reimbursement sheets.
- When using an agency vehicle, ensure temperature‑controlled storage areas function properly and maintain food temperatures using appropriate methods.
- Maintain agency vehicle in good running order and clean condition. Complete maintenance logs and report any concerns to the Food Service Manager.
- Maintain all meal transport equipment per department policies and report any damage to the Dining Center Coordinator.
- Deliver meals along with information, notices, pet food, and special event treats as requested.
- Complete required daily paperwork indicating delivery of meals and maintain route book with the Dining Center Coordinator.
- Adhere to agency policy regarding handling of donations.
- Inform the Dining Center Coordinator of any updates or concerns regarding participants.
- Assist the Dining Center Coordinator with assessments when required.
- Participate in meetings and training as required.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and professional relationships with participants.
- Show respect, helpfulness, and kindness toward participants and co‑workers.
- Teach, train, and mentor student interns and volunteers working within the program area.
- Act in a manner consistent with agency values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Food service or customer service background preferred.
- Knowledge and familiarity of the geographic service area preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License and personal auto liability insurance required.
- Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition, insured for State minimum liability, suitable for the job functions.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Clearance of a DOJ and FBI criminal history background check.
- Motor Vehicle Report verification.
- COVID‑19 and Influenza (flu) vaccines preferred.
- Interest in and ability to work with the elderly.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
- Ability to maintain accurate, neat records.
- Proper food handling and sanitary skills.
- Basic knowledge of computers and web‑based applications such as timekeeping, training, and email programs.
- Physical abilities sufficient to move between different work areas, communicate with co‑workers and the public, operate a motor vehicle, complete basic reports, talk on the telephone, and travel to multiple locations.
