Principal of Career-Technical Center
Job Goal
The Principal of the Career-Technical Center administers local career-technical education programs in collaboration with business and industry. The position provides visionary leadership to administer, promote, encourage, and evaluate career-technical programs; establishes, maintains, and periodically revises policies and plans to ensure curriculum relevance; and maintains operating standards required by the State Board of Education.
Qualifications
* Master's degree or higher in career/technical education or educational administration from an accredited institution.
* Valid Alabama teaching certificate in school administration.
* Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching or administrative experience in career/technical education, or other equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
* Must meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and related procedures.
* Knowledge of school law.
* Knowledge of trends in career/technical education.
* Knowledge of state and local policies and procedures.
* Demonstrated interest in human relations and problem-solving.
* Demonstrated interest in innovative practices.
* Knowledge of technology equipment, computers, and software.
* Ability to organize effectively.
* Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
* Ability to communicate effectively through email.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher.
* Physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and visual acuity sufficient to meet job demands and address student needs.
Essential Functions
* Translate community and workforce needs into meaningful career-technical programs.
* Prepare and implement a strategic plan for career-technical education.
* Collaborate with appropriate state agencies for program approval and financial support.
* Plan and prepare annual financial and personnel budgets.
* Identify long-range needs for facilities, equipment, and supplies.
* Schedule facilities for maximum instructional utilization.
* Conduct annual evaluations of facilities and equipment.
* Assist middle school and high school principals in selecting career-technical faculty.
* Plan and/or conduct staff development activities.
* Collaborate with teacher education institutions and state staff to develop effective pre-service and in-service programs.
* Ensure career-technical teachers attend professional development conferences and workshops and earn required technical update hours.
* Require teachers to maintain skills aligned with technological advancements.
* Evaluate teacher performance using the approved teacher evaluation system.
* Observe instructional practices in career-technical classrooms.
* Define and communicate program goals and objectives.
* Work with counselors to align coursework with student interests and aptitudes.
* Require and support active student organizations.
* Develop initiatives to engage the community in school activities.
* Establish and maintain positive public relations.
* Collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data.
* Utilize advisory committees to support career-technical programs.
* Perform non-administrative duties (e.g., hall duty, bus duty, chaperoning) as necessary.
* Promote career-technical education among community stakeholders.
* Keep teachers informed of effective instructional methods and current best-practice literature.
* Take leave in accordance with Board policy and report absences to Sub Finder promptly.
* Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
* Perform other reasonable and job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Terms of Employment
Employment shall be in accordance with an individual negotiated contract.
Evaluation
Performance shall be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of professional personnel.
