Position Type: Special Education - Non‑licensed / Special Education Assistant
Location: Heiman Elementary School
Salary: $19.88 per hour plus benefits (range $18). Additional salary credit may be given for internal transfers and recent rehires, up to $31.87 per hour plus benefits.
Contract Length / Days: 182 Days (2025–2026)

Required: AA degree preferred or 48 semester hours of approved college credit, or passing scores on the Work Keys exam.

Job DescriptionSummary/Objective: Supervises student conduct, instructs individual or small groups of students, supports school‑wide assessment, and performs other duties and clerical tasks as assigned.
Essential Functions- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce instructional material planned and/or presented by classroom teachers.
- Assist with computer assignments and various classroom activities; support individual student's access to the curriculum (note‑taking, reading, assistive technology, etc.).
- Instruct small groups in assigned content areas in alignment with in‑building or in‑district training.
- Administer selected assessments and other assignments as assigned.
- Perform clerical duties such as copying, laminating, record keeping, data entry, filing, cutting and pasting.
- Use technology for data entry and instruction, including interactive whiteboards, document cameras, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web‑based systems.
- Monitor students before, during and after school, on the playground and in the cafeteria; implement the school's PBIS.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Spend 90% of time with students.
- Assist with lesson plans.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time, cope with numerous distractions, and maintain visual, auditory, and ambulatory acuity.
- Move quickly from one position to another in response to student needs and possess upper body strength to lift and carry up to 50 lb.
Must be able to perform the attached physical demands.
Other DutiesBasic knowledge of computer data entry, office procedures and equipment; basic knowledge of reading, arithmetic, grammar and spelling; ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; willingness to learn assistive technology software.
