Job Description

This tutor position focuses on learner‑centered support, boosting students’ confidence and success. You will guide students in developing independent learning skills while maintaining effective communication with the Program Coordinator. The role emphasizes maintaining accurate documentation and actively participating in tutor trainings and observations. Additionally, you will create a learner‑centered environment and promote the use of campus resources. Flexibility is expected, and adherence to Aims Community College’s student and staff policies is required.

Occasional travel may be required.

Job Duties
  • Conduct individual, group and/or drop‑in in‑person and remote tutoring sessions for assigned courses.
  • Approach tutoring with a learner‑centered focus to increase students’ confidence and success.
  • Have strong oral and written skills and communicate with the tutoring supervisor to ensure effective tutoring methodologies. Understand and support the student‑teacher relationship.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of tutoring sessions.
  • Guide students on how to develop active and independent learning skills.
  • Adapt strategies for specific learning differences.
  • Attend and participate in regular one‑on‑one and group training sessions.
  • Assist with training of new tutors.
  • Stay up to date on current trends in tutoring practices in the content area.
  • Have experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • May attend courses being tutored to promote services or provide support in the classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the tutoring supervisor.
  • Adhere to student and staff policies as determined by Aims Community College.
Work Hours

Part‑time; must have availability to work weekdays and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MA/MS in related field or certification in related area, plus two (2) years of teaching, tutoring or work experience in the related content area or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
