Schedule: Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; a four 10-hour day schedule may be available.

Nature of Work

The Utilities Engineer is under general supervision of the Engineering Director, provides a full range of engineering, project management, and construction inspection services for the City’s Engineering Department. This includes technical work related to municipal stormwater management, transportation water distribution, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment. The employee will perform work related to the design and review of engineering and utility plans and develop deliverables related to the production of maps, drawings, plans, specifications, and details for water, wastewater, and stormwater management systems.

  • Lead and/or support the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of City infrastructure related to municipal stormwater management, transportation, water distribution, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment.
  • Lead and/or support in the management of capital improvement projects and development of capital improvement plans.
  • Lead and/or support in reviewing site plans, construction plans, drainage reports, traffic reports and planning documents for proposed land development for adequacy and compliance with City codes and criteria.
  • Lead and/or support in communicating with developers, contractors, and the public regarding permit applications, review processes, and code interpretations.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings to lead or support the development process, resolve issues, and ensure timely project completion.
  • Lead and/or support construction project administration, inspection, & permits (Rights-of-Way, traffic etc.).
  • Lead and/or support MS4 compliance & enforcement related initiatives.
  • Compile, analyze, and present data to support infrastructure projects, utilizing GIS and other relevant software.
  • Conduct technical research, evaluate alternatives, and provide recommendations to staff, City leadership, City boards and commissions, and City Council.
  • Collaborate with various city departments and operational staff, contractors, consultants, regional partners, and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry best management practices.
  • Provide guidance on public works and utility infrastructure and project administration.
  • Support in developing the asset management systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in department, staff, City boards and commissions, City Council, and interagency meetings.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of construction project administration, inspection, engineering, and project management.
