Position: Police Chief - City of Evans, CO

Evans, Colorado is a growing city of 23,000 residents with a small-town feel and a dynamic economic foundation driven by energy, agriculture, healthcare, and construction. Known for its diverse and welcoming community, Evans offers a high quality of life with excellent schools, abundant parks, and easy access to both urban amenities and outdoor adventures.

The Evans Police Department oversees records management, community service and outreach. It manages specialized policing units and coordinates with local boards and commissions to ensure transparent governance. Reporting to the City Manager, the new Police Chief will provide executive leadership and manage daily department operations, oversee budgeting, personnel, and resources, develop and implement crime prevention and public safety programs, serve as an organizational representative with regional agencies and the public, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

The salary for this position is $143,614 - $201,060 DOE/DOQ.

Required qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, public administration, or related field

• Minimum of ten (10) years of law enforcement experience, with at least five (5) years at the rank of lieutenant or higher

• Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within six months of hire

• Possess a Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) certification or obtain within 12 months of employment.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish

• Experience in the public/municipal sector

• Master’s degree in a related field

• Completion of FBI National Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff & Command, or equivalent high-level police leadership training
