Nature of WorkThe Code Enforcement Officer I.II is under general supervision and enforces municipal ordinances pertaining to public nuisance issues, including but not limited to weeds, trash, junk, outside storage, inoperable vehicles, hazardous trees, maintenance of fences, snow on sidewalks, and graffiti. Interacts with community members to resolve public nuisances and provides support for Neighborhood Services programs as assigned.

- Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.
- To support consistent high‑quality service for our community and each other, it is the expectation of all employees to be punctual and have good attendance and to communicate effectively for scheduling conflicts or when taking leave according to city policy.
- Patrols streets throughout the city in a marked vehicle and identifies code violations and problems relating to land use, zoning, and signage.
- Documents situations and actions taken by issuing courtesy notices, notices of violation, inspections, and citations.
- Documents phone calls, office visits and any other interactions pertaining to the violation case.
- Notifies property owners or involved parties of violations and corrective actions required.
- Responds to citizen inquiries and requests for code enforcement services.
- Provides education and code information to the public.
- Prepares computer generated reports, takes photographs, sends certified notices or corrective orders, and follows up on cases to verify compliance has been achieved.
- Works with the Neighborhood Services Manager to identify violations to be abated by the City, and to process such abatements.
- Maintains neighborhoods and City right‑of‑way for items such as but not limited to abandoned vehicles, weeds, dead trees, graffiti, trash, and debris.
- Leads seasonal staff in enforcement of nuisance code violations, training, identification of violations and prioritization of neighborhood patrols.
- Code Enforcement Officer:
Issues notices of violations and citat - Assists with training of seasonal staff.
- May participate on boards and/or committees as requested, including the Citizens Police Advisory Committee.
- May work a varying schedule and/or shift.
- Knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes and municipal code relating to code enforcement.
- Skills in investigative report writing and detailed documentation.
- Ability to patrol neighborhoods and identify violations.
- Ability to use code enforcement equipment, such as digital camera, measuring devices, and mobile computing devices.
- Ability to testify in court in a professional manner.

Required:
Code Enforcement Officer I:- High School diploma or equivalent; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- 1 year of customer service experience.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
