Education / Experience (Required)- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Successful completion of School Health Clerk Class within one year.
- American Red Cross First Aid and CPR (infant, children and adult) current certificate.
- Completion of ongoing training and in‑services as required.
- Successful completion of State Medication Training for School‑aged Children.
Summary/Objective:
The Health Clerk works under direction and license of a professional school Registered Nurse, providing health‑care, basic life support, first aid for students and performing routine clerical tasks.
- Provides technical physical care to students with special needs as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
- Assesses injuries and illnesses in emergency situations, following American Red Cross First Aid and CPR procedures.
- Notifies parents and Registered Nurse of student illnesses or injuries as required.
- Documents billable services for the School Medicaid Program.
- Dispenses medications to students under delegation of the Registered Nurse, in accordance with the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.
- Communicates with the Registered Nurse about student absences for health reasons.
- Maintains accurate records of clinic activities and student health records, assisting in identification of students with significant health concerns.
- Tracks student immunization status and informs parents of enrollment requirements.
- Develops computer forms, reports, and documents for district and state reporting.
- Maintains positive working relationships with the Registered Nurse, staff, students, and community members.
- Schedules appointments for the Registered Nurse as needed.
- Follows procedures for reporting suspected child abuse/neglect.
- Adheres to Universal Precautions when caring for ill or injured students, staff, and visitors.
- Participates in state‑mandated, school‑wide health screening and provides follow‑up referrals.
- Maintains a clean, orderly health office and manages clinic supplies inventory.
- Accepts other duties as assigned and remains flexible.
- Can sit for long periods and can move quickly between tasks, possessing upper body strength to lift and carry up to 50 lb.
