SUMMARY
The Parks Maintenance Technician (Seasonal) performs various non-skilled manual labor tasks related to maintenance, cleaning, repair, and construction of the park system, cemetery, athletic fields, and various facilities to help ensure safe, clean, well-maintained grounds and facilities at assigned locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Employee possesses knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all essential duties safely and satisfactorily including municipal governance, teamwork, problem‑solving, relationship‑building, customer service, detail orientation, technology/equipment proficiency, policy adherence, time management, result‑orientation, research and data analysis, decision‑making, self‑motivation, stewardship, integrity, and upholding the “EDGE” core values.
- Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate in English orally and in writing.
- Expectation of punctuality, good attendance, and effective communication for scheduling conflicts or leave.
- Directs complex problems to supervisor.
- Mow, trim, weed, and string trim parks, open spaces, medians, and streetscapes.
- Cleans and maintains park bathrooms, facilities, parks, open spaces, medians, irrigation ponds, athletic fields, cemetery grounds, and trails.
- May assist with snow removal operations.
- Perform typical parks/landscape maintenance tasks including mowing, weeding, pruning, trimming, cleanups, planting, grubbing, fertilizing, spraying (pesticides), irrigation maintenance, landscape construction, trash pickup, pet station cleanup, graffiti removal, cemetery cleanups and burials, bathroom janitorial maintenance, watering, fencing, snow plowing, edging and more.
- May assist with athletic field maintenance and marking.
- Emergency response as needed.
- Operate vehicles used in parks construction and maintenance light dump trucks, tractors, mowers, aerators, sprayers, pickups, trailers, snowplows, chippers, and others.
- Operate power tools including chain saws, string trimmers, demo saws, bush cutters, jackhammers, tampers, concrete saws, pressure washers, blowers, and more.
- Perform basic mower maintenance such as blade sharpening.
- Cleans and maintains city equipment and vehicles.
- Use hand tools including shovels, sledgehammers, tamps, wheelbarrows, rakes, and more.
- May be assigned to special events such as Heritage Day and trash cleanups.
- May apply herbicides and pesticides to control weeds and brush along streets, right‑of‑way, medians, parks, open spaces, streetscapes and more. Maintain usage records; follow all applicable laws and use required PPE.
- Perform periodic weekend, evening, and holiday work when necessary.
- Assist any other city departments as needed.
- Prioritize personal and team safety at all times while at work.
- Maintain all work areas and tools in a clean and safe condition.
- May enter confined spaces using proper PPE, related safety equipment and entry permits.
- As a member of the City of Evans team, employees are privileged to serve each other and the community; therefore, will be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- 1 year of parks related experience.
- Experience in public/municipal sector.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly requires mental and visual concentration, listening, talking, standing, reaching, twisting, demonstrating manual dexterity, walking on level, uneven and slippery terrain, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, balancing, crouching, crawling, grasping, pinching, and repetitive hand movements.
