Position: Building Maintenance Technician I

Job Description

The Building Maintenance Technician I position is responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings across multiple campuses and ensuring buildings function at a high level.

Responsibilities
  • Support alteration work such as rough carpentry and drywall; assist in demolition, site cleaning, delivery of supplies and materials, removal of trash, debris, and packing material.
  • Assist and/or repair electrical items such as light switches, receptacles, lamps, ballasts; clean light lenses and perform electrical preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare surfaces, repair surfaces, apply paint, stain, varnish, or other finishes; apply wall coverings.
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and install office furniture, shelving, whiteboards, etc.
  • Assist and repair minor plumbing problems; perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Assist in the repair of masonry walls; assist in the installation, repair, or maintenance and removal of carpet, vinyl composition tile, or sheet vinyl flooring; perform preventative maintenance and repairs on window and roofing systems; assist in roof repairs, insulation installation, and related tasks.
  • Snow & Ice Removal: maintain entryways and walkways up to 20 ft free from snow and ice using specialized equipment or by hand, distribute sand or ice melt, and inspect for accumulations and address safety hazards.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED; plus, one (1) year of general labor or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Pre‑employment post‑offer physical evaluation required.
  • Safety certifications for forklift, skid loader, and manlift (or ability to become certified within twelve (12) months of hire).
  • Use of a company vehicle for business travel; must pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of building systems.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty experience in any general building maintenance and repair.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
Salary

Minimum Hiring Annual Salary: $40,075.00
Maximum Hiring Annual Salary: $43,281.00 (requires meeting all minimum qualifications plus additional experience as described).
