The Recreation Aide works under general supervision and represents the recreation facility. Duties include enforcing City policies during scheduled rentals, special events, concessions, and functions; providing outstanding customer service; answering phones; receiving admissions, selling passes, completing program registrations, processing memberships, filing, cleaning, and other assigned tasks.
Essential Duties, Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesRecreation Aide I –
Responsibilities include:
- Apply municipal governance, teamwork, problem‑solving, relationship‑building, and customer‑service skills; maintain detail orientation, technology proficiency, policy adherence, time management, and the City’s EDGE core values.
- Communicate effectively in written and oral English.
- Demonstrate punctuality, good attendance, and effective communication regarding scheduling or leave.
- Assist with community‑wide special events, rentals coverage, and other duties as assigned.
- Front desk duties: open/close facilities; complete paperwork, logs, incident reports; maintain front desk, gymnasium, game rooms, cardio weight room, and locker rooms; set up/take down tables, chairs, and equipment for classes and special events; write records, reports, and receipts; greet guests, accept memberships, and process registrations; handle cash and credit card charges; conduct safety walk‑throughs.
- Concessionaire duties: serve food promptly, restock items, comply with food‑handling and sanitation regulations, maintain clean prep environment, follow revenue control procedures, handle cash and credit card charges, possess basic food knowledge, work evenings/weekends/holidays, and perform additional duties as requested.
Recreation Aide II – In addition to I responsibilities, may:
- Assist full‑time staff in planning, implementing, supervising, evaluating, and promoting recreation activities.
- Assist with interviewing, training, and scheduling staff.
- Operate and train on recreation software, systems, and policies.
- Serve as manager on duty when assigned.
- Show considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, operations, supplies.
- Know federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Supervise concession areas when required.
- Act as camp counselor when needed.
Recreation Aide III – Includes II duties and may:
- Oversee concession stand operations, schedule and motivate concession team, organize events, and serve food.
- Prepare accident and incident reports, enter event data, coordinate with outside agencies, distribute promotional materials, respond to rental inquiries, and process rental agreements for community venues.
- Understand recreation principles and philosophy, comply with regulations, and plan, promote, and implement recreation programs and rentals.
- Supervise, direct, and train employees independently.
Additional sports specialist responsibilities include coordinating and implementing sports programs, conducting registrations, managing equipment, enforcing safety, supervising league play, and assisting with program budgets.
Education, Experience, and LicensureRecreation Aide I –
Required:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six months of hire.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in the public/municipal sector.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of customer service experience, including cash handling.
Recreation Aide II –
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Two years of recreation or related field experience.
- Two years of customer service and cash handling experience.
Recreation Aide III –
Required:
- Three years of recreation or related field experience.
