Transportation Paraprofessional
A transportation paraprofessional assists with the physical and medical needs of students aboard their school bus. This may include loading and unloading students in wheelchairs via the hydraulic lift; moving and positioning wheelchairs within the bus; and/or securing the wheelchairs to the bus. It may also include positioning or repositioning students in their school bus seats and properly securing them in their safety restraint systems.
Other duties could include assisting students walking up and down the bus stairs, opening and closing bus windows and doors and cleaning the bus. Occasionally the paraprofessional may carry or move student backpacks or other equipment. If the transportation paraprofessional is unable to fulfill these duties, they can simply provide ride-along support and engage the bus driver for further assistance as needed.
