We have an exciting opportunity for a Postsecondary Education Specialist at UL Research Institutes, based in our Evanston, Illinois, office. The Postsecondary Education Specialist designs, develops, and delivers effective safety STEM education programs based on the research of UL Research Institute and UL Standards & Engagement to enhance the skills, knowledge and performance of postsecondary education resources used by students, educators, and other target audiences.

The Postsecondary Education Specialist collaborates with subject matter experts and applies instructional design skills to create educational resources and lead workshops using a variety of training methodologies.

This is a hybrid position, requiring two days in office.

The Institute for Research Experiences & Education (IREE) cultivates the next generation of safety scientists through a mix of unique educational programs, academic partnerships, and research and standards development experiences.

We translate the findings of our research institutes into compelling educational materials, bringing to life scientific concepts using contemporary best education practices to create learning opportunities for a wide variety of secondary through postgraduate students. Our academic collaborations and support for the next generation of safety scientists likewise reach across the educational spectrum, including partnerships that reach out to students who are underrepresented in STEM fields.

Through all of our programs, we aim to unlock the diverse perspectives that are essential for solving the world's most pressing safety and sustainability issues.

What you’ll learn and achieve
  • Collaborate with UL Research Institutes and Standards & Engagement to identify educational needs and goals and design and develop educational programs and resources aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Incorporate instructional design methodologies to create engaging and effective resources.
  • Develop a variety of learning resources such as presentations, modules, videos, and workshops; adapt and modify materials to address specific learning objectives and audience needs ensuring that content is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to the target audience.
  • Facilitate engaging learning through various delivery methods, including in-person workshops, webinars, and virtual formats; promote active participation, support knowledge retention, and lead discussion by addressing questions and providing clarification.
  • Utilize the educational platform to deliver and manage instructional content. Explore and integrate innovative technologies, such as virtual reality or gamification, to enhance learning experiences.
  • Collect and analyze effectiveness data to identify areas for improvement and adjust instructional strategies, accordingly; gather feedback from participants to continuously enhance the quality of workshops and resources.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and seminars to stay current with industry trends, educational technologies, and best practices in instructional design, while continuously improving skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure educational resources align with organizational goals and objectives.
