THE ROLECore faculty members are employees of The Family Institute at Northwestern University with significant teaching, supervising and governing responsibilities in the COAMFTE-accredited Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy Program (MSMFT Program), housed within the Center of Applied Psychological and Family Studies (CAPFS) at Northwestern University. They hold clinical faculty appointments in the Department of Psychology e faculty members are also responsible for clinical caseloads in keeping with TFI policies and at a level negotiated yearly within their contracts.
This role is a visiting core faculty position for the academic year.
- This position is open to individuals who qualify at the rank of a Clinical Assistant Professor
- Design and delivery of an outcome-based education framework that exists in the context of program and institutional missions
- Delivery of measurable student learning outcomes consistent with the development of systemic, culturally competent, empirically informed, and ethical Marriage and Family Therapists
- Assessing the academic and professional competencies of students and all aspects of the program’s operation, such that program improvements can be made based on data and feedback collected
- Core faculty operate within the guidelines and requirements of the MSMFT program, the policies of Northwestern University, and the AAMFT code of ethics
- As part of the core faculty governing body, support the program’s mission, goals and student learning outcomes, including the acquisition of knowledge and skills within the practice of systemic frameworks
- Attend and contribute to core faculty meetings and quarterly cohort program meetings
- Take an active role on the program admissions committee from recruitment to open house support, and review of applications and applicant interviews
- Participate and provide leadership in program sub-committees
- Serve as part of a collaborative team of faculty governance and demonstrate flexibility in role and responsibilities within a changing structure
- Serve as the academic advisor to MSMFT graduate students through their course of training from student orientation to graduation
- Serve as an instructor for the program and be willing to participate as a guest lecturer for various courses as needed
- Serve as a clinical supervisor
- Work with and support a variety of student issues including academic and professional development and remediation
- Engage in scholarly activities including but not limited to having a research lab and mentoring students in their scholarly pursuits
- Exhibit ongoing efforts to advance and receive academic promotional ranking within the department of Psychology at Northwestern University
- Participate in activities that support the profession of marriage and family therapy that go beyond the program tasks
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support, teach and contribute across both MSMFT programs as needed
- Maintain an active clinical caseload at a level negotiated yearly within contract and attend clinical services meetings
- Writes program communication, marketing material, and blogs as requested
- Holds strong MFT identity
- Committed to the program’s integrative, systemic approach
- Has the capacity to engage with numerous stakeholders using strong interpersonal skills
- Supports students in career development
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
