Position:
On-Site Substitute Instructor

CTD Academic Summer Camp at Northwestern University

On‑Site Substitute Instructors serve as Teaching Assistants every day until they are needed to substitute for another Instructor. On‑Site Sub Instructors work in close collaboration with Instructors to provide academically challenging instruction to CTD students. They support student engagement and directly supervise students before class, during lunch, and throughout the academic day.

Employment Dates and Compensation
  • Tentative training dates:
    Wednesday and Thursday, June 24 and 25, 2026
  • Session Dates:
    June 28 - August 7, 2026
  • Compensation: $20 when serving as a TA; $28 when serving as an instructor
  • Hours:

    Monday-Friday, 8:15am - 3:15pm, one half‑hour unpaid break per day; 37.5 hours weekly maximum
Qualifications
  • Completion of undergraduate degree required; teaching experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is required.
  • Must enjoy working on dynamic teams and with students at various grade levels.
  • Must be able to traverse distances of at least one mile with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift and/or maneuver at least 40 lbs.
General Responsibilities
  • Learn and implement CTD policies and procedures.
  • Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.
  • Maintain CTD's standard of supervision at all times according to grade level requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with Instructor to review course goals, daily objectives, teaching strategies and methods, and expectations of the TA role.
  • Prepare for daily duties by understanding the schedule of learning activities and being prepared to lead activities in the instructor's absence.
  • Assist Instructors with all instruction‑related tasks, such as taking notes on student progress, leading small groups, etc.
  • Communicate with academic, residential, and administrative staff regarding student progress.
  • Promptly document any academic or behavioral issues within 12 hours of any incident.
  • Review student medical notes, i.e. allergies/other medical needs, and uphold confidentiality policies.
  • Assume program‑related responsibilities as requested by CTD administrative staff.
  • Science TAs:
    Assist Instructor and/or Lab Prep Coordinator in the set up and clean‑up of labs; implement safety plans according to university guidelines and regulations.
  • Science TAs: participate in Northwestern University Lab Safety training.
  • Assume program‑related responsibilities as reasonably requested by CTD directors and administrators.
