Overview
Manager, Infection Prevention – Evanston, IL – Full time, 40 hours. The goal of the Infection Prevention (IP) Manager is to lead system‑level efforts to drive excellence in infection prevention and control practices across designated pavilions. Through data‑driven, high reliability strategies and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, this role advances quality, safety, and outcomes while ensuring compliance with evidence‑based standards.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Surveillance IP Manager, System AVP of Infection Prevention, and System Medical Director of Infection Prevention to analyze, interpret, and implement prevention initiatives for specific HAI metrics.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to a multi‑disciplinary team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. Conduct annual performance reviews and regularly provide feedback to meet established infection control goals and priorities.
- Lead communication with local pavilion leadership, including hospital administration, Infection Prevention MD, CMO, and CNO regarding current infection control issues, findings, and recommendations. Participate in establishing pavilion goals, tracking and trending data, and presenting data for local and system Infection Control Committees.
- Utilize advanced analytics tools and NHSN data to identify infection trends, prioritize interventions, and share actionable insights across the system. Review local HAI infection data to identify variances from baseline that require special attention and collaborate with key stakeholders to implement creative strategies to reduce HAI risks.
- Collaborate with Nursing Education to develop and conduct annual training programs for team members on infection prevention strategies with a focus on assigned HAI metrics and best practices.
- Lead the Infection Prevention response to surveys, investigations, and inspections conducted by Joint Commission, IDPH, CMS, or other oversight bodies for assigned pavilions. Serve as the official liaison to public health authorities for communicable disease reporting.
- Collaborate with Employee Health and the System Emergency Preparedness Committee to ensure local pavilion readiness and work with Facilities, EVS, Environmental Health & Safety, and Value Analysis to evaluate best practice infection prevention activities.
- Lead system‑wide policy development and standardization of practices across areas of oversight and oversee hand hygiene compliance monitoring for designated pavilions.
- Mentor and develop direct reports to support succession planning and build a robust infection prevention team.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or Medical Technology (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ Years of experience in infection control and prevention.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles and process improvement.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including leading groups of people and problem solving.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to present clear and concise information to key stakeholders.
- Interpersonal skills such as emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and team facilitation.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, including proficiency in utilizing NHSN data and advanced analytic tools to analyze trends and identify actionable insights.
- Certified in Infection Control (CIC) – Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) required.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to address urgent infection control issues.
