Position: Assistant Beach Office Manager - Summer 2026

Assistant Beach Office Manager – Summer 2026

City of Evanston – Parks and Recreation Department – Seasonal (May 23 – September 7, 2026).

Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour

Hours: Varies; up to 40 hours/week, weekdays and weekends; must work at least 4 days per week.

  • Basic knowledge of standard money handling procedures and customer service skills.
  • Pass Criminal and DCFS background checks.
  • Pass drug and alcohol screen.
  • Basic math skills exam and interview.
General Task Statement

Responsible for the sales and daily operations of the Dempster St. Beach Office. Hires, trains, schedules, and manages gate attendants and office staff.

Supervision:
Under direct supervision of the Outdoor Program Coordinator and Recreation Manager.

Essential Functions – Task Statements
  • Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront.
  • Conduct recruitment and assist with hiring seasonal employees.
  • Support operations by maintaining office systems and supervising staff.
  • Maintain office services by organizing operations, controlling correspondence, designing filing systems, reviewing and approving supply requisitions, and assigning and monitoring clerical functions.
  • Maintain office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems, layouts, and equipment procurement.
  • Design and implement office policies.
  • Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
  • Keep management informed by reviewing special reports, summarizing information, identifying trends.
  • Recruit, select, orient, and train employees.
  • Coach, counsel and discipline employees; plan, monitor, and appraise job results.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Inspect vessels and enforce rules at sailing beach and power boat launch.
  • Manage Amila waiting lists, rentals, beach passes and daily admissions.
  • Communicate with Sailing and Aquatic Camp staff regarding rentals and lessons.
  • Know current beach programs and events and communicate details to patrons.
  • Attend staff training sessions.
  • Collect all due monies and check tokens at the beach office.
  • Balance collected monies at end of each shift.
  • Communicate with patrons effectively.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintain a clean and safe office environment.
  • Maintain care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas.
  • Complete written reports (accident, incident, batch, etc.) promptly.
  • Report problems or issues to supervisors.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.
  • Assume responsibilities of Beach Office Manager in absence.
  • Assist with pre- and post-season maintenance tasks.
Specifications (Abilities, Skills, Physical Demands, Environment)

Reasoning: Apply common sense in written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions; solve problems involving multiple variables.

Language: Read staff manuals, remember attendance sheets; write logs, reports; give verbal direction.

Math: Basic math proficiency.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 20 pounds, climb ladders, kneel, stoop, squat, crawl; work outdoors in varied weather, sometimes nights with limited lighting.

Environment: Outdoor beach, recreation centers, offices; exposure to weather conditions; no protective gear for weather.
