Pay Rate: $22.00/hour

Prerequisites for Employment- Current American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED and First-Aid
- Previous aquatic camp or boating/sailing experience preferred
- Available mid-May through September 7
- Preferred 18+ years of age
- At least one year as a lifeguard with the City of Evanston
- Pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
- Criminal and DCFS background check
Varying, part-time Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑5 pm with occasional weekends and holidays up to 40 hrs/week. Individuals planning to work under the Evanston Fire Department in a lifeguard position do not need to apply.
General Task StatementResponsible for the supervision and safety of all campers in the City of Evanston Aquatics Camp in the absence of full‑time camp counselors.
SupervisionUnder the direct supervision of the Aquatic Camp Directors and Program Coordinator.
Required Responsibilities- Ability to work various days subbing as an aquatic camp counselor as needed during (9) weeks of camp (June 9–August 8).
- Adheres to staff policies including time‑off requests, attendance, and uniform policies.
- Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront.
- Use proper surveillance techniques to guard the swimming area.
- Identify patrons in need of emergency assistance and respond appropriately.
- Maintain safe environment and supervise all campers.
- Know and adhere to all boating regulations and safety measures.
- Conduct camp and teach all designated lesson plans.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled by Aquatic Camp Director or program coordinator.
- Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons and camp parents.
- Maintain a clean and safe beach and office environment.
- Care for and maintain equipment and storage areas.
- Complete written reports such as accident incidents on a timely basis.
- Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Knowledge and skills in basic sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and boat driving.
- Assists with pre‑ and post‑season maintenance‑related tasks as assigned.
