AQUATIC CAMP COUNSELOR

Location:
Dempster St. Beach Office.
Ability to work all nine (9) weeks of camp from June 9-August 8 and assist at lakefront until Labor Day.
Responsibilities- Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront.
- Use proper surveillance techniques to guard the swimming area.
- Identify patrons in need of emergency assistance and respond appropriately.
- Maintain a safe environment and supervise all campers.
- Know and adhere to all boating regulations and safety measures.
- Conduct camp and teach all designated lesson plans.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled by Aquatic Camp Director or program coordinator.
- Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons and camp parents.
- Maintain a clean and safe beach and office environment.
- Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas.
- Complete written reports such as accident, incident, and the like on a timely basis.
- Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Knowledge and skills in basic sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and boat driving.
- Assists with pre and post-season maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
- Current American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED, and First-Aid.
- Previous boating/sailing experience preferred.
- Available mid-May through August 31, 2026.
- 18+ years of age preferred.
- Illinois Boat License preferred.
- At least one year as a lifeguard with the City of Evanston required.
- Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Screening.
- Criminal and DCFS Background Check.
Varies:
Mondays-Friday 8:30am-5pm with occasional weekends and holidays up to 40 hrs/week. Including pre- and post-season lifeguarding.
