Overview
S&ME is seeking a hard-working, motivated individual to join our Construction Services team in Evansville, Indiana as a Construction Materials Engineering Technician. This is a full-time role focused on construction materials testing and field/lab activities with opportunities to gain industry certifications.
What You Will Do- Project and Document Analysis:
Comprehend project specifications before fieldwork; precisely document observations and test outcomes related to soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials. - Metafield Application:
Effectively handle data using field and lab information systems. - Equipment Maintenance:
Verify that field and laboratory equipment are precise and comply with industry standards. - Special Inspection Monitoring:
Adhere to International Building Code (IBC) guidelines for testing and inspecting construction materials. - Stakeholder Interaction:
Communicate with supervisors, contractors, and clients to report on project status and address any issues.
Experience shifting work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).

Qualifications- Education:
High School diploma/GED - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials - Certifications:
- Two or more active certifications:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI):
Field Testing Grade I;
Strength Testing Technician;
Laboratory Technician - International Code Council (ICC):
Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) - DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- Key
Competencies: - Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- Math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and occasional travel
- Have a valid United States driver s license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) for driving in the US, with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to operate a company-assigned vehicle safely (Truck or SUV)
This role involves hands-on work in outdoor environments, and with company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), you ll need to be comfortable with:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
