Purple Aces Production Technical Director

The University of Evansville Athletics Department invites applications for the position of Purple Aces Productions Technical Director. This position plays a critical role in the production and execution of all ESPN+ broadcasts and livestream events associated with the University's Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA Division I athletic programs.

The Technical Director serves as the lead producer and director for Purple Aces Productions and is responsible for delivering high-quality broadcasts that meet ESPN and Conference standards. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of live event production, manage student and part-time production staff, support creative content development, and contribute to classroom instruction within the Department of Communication, when assigned.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Director provides leadership for all aspects of livestream and video production operations while ensuring a professional broadcast experience for viewers, partners, and stakeholders.

Live Event Production & Broadcast Operations
  • Serve as the lead producer and technical director for all "The Valley on ESPN" broadcasts and other assigned livestream events.
  • Direct live broadcasts for Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, and other designated events.
  • Ensure all productions meet ESPN, Missouri Valley Conference, NCAA, and University quality standards.
  • Oversee all aspects of event production, including staffing, directing, staging, troubleshooting, script preparation, quality control, and final review.
  • Coordinate and manage event logistics to ensure successful execution of broadcasts.
Technical Leadership
  • Direct production staff to ensure high-quality video, audio, graphics, and lighting throughout broadcasts.
  • Ensure consistency, compatibility, and standardization of deliverables for ESPN and other broadcast platforms.
  • Monitor and maintain broadcast equipment, production systems, and technical workflows.
  • Develop and implement best practices for production operations and quality assurance.
Staff Recruitment, Training & Supervision
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student employees and part-time event staff.
  • Develop training programs that prepare students for real-world sports production environments.
  • Mentor and evaluate student crew members while fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Create production manuals, workflows, and operational procedures to support efficient event execution.
Content Creation & Creative Services
  • Produce original athletics-related video content for promotional, commercial, social media, and in-game entertainment purposes.
  • Collaborate with athletics administration, marketing, and communications staff to create engaging multimedia content.
  • Support video board production and special event presentation initiatives.
  • Assist with creative storytelling efforts that enhance the Purple Aces brand.
Innovation & Strategic Development
  • Research emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in sports broadcasting and live event production.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to improve the fan experience and broadcast quality.
  • Evaluate production workflows and identify opportunities for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
  • Communicate directly with sponsors, clients, coaches, and campus partners regarding production needs and expectations.
  • Ensure sponsored content and promotional elements are executed accurately and professionally.
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
Teaching & Educational Responsibilities
  • Teach one course per academic term, or six credit hours annually, within the Department of Communication if assigned and qualified.
  • Alternatively, perform an equivalent amount of departmental work if teaching responsibilities are not assigned.
  • Provide hands‑on educational opportunities and mentorship to students interested in sports media and production careers.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Media Production, Broadcasting, Sports Media, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in live event production, broadcast television, sports production, or multimedia content creation.
  • Strong knowledge of video production systems, audio systems, graphics integration, and livestream technologies.
