Position Summary

Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs and activities for USI students as part of the Center for International Programs (CIP) to create opportunities for mutual cultural exchange. This position will assist with monitoring SEVIS compliance, and the development and execution of educational programs and events which support the University’s programs and internationalization initiatives.

Immigration
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO for F-1 visas) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO for J-1 visas) and assist Executive Director (PDSO and RO) with SEVIS requirements and compliance of federal regulations.
  • Conduct continuous checking of student compliance with immigration requirements.
  • Conduct continuous advising with students on immigration requirements.
  • Connect annually with Academic Advising Units to update on immigration changes.
  • Create and maintain procedure documents regarding immigration, policies for the CIP and the campus in cooperation with the PDSO.
  • Offer semestral workshops and continuous communication with students on CPT, OPT, employment, social security, annual tax submission, and other regular immigration issues.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Manage the immigration process post-admission and continue university yield efforts to recruit new students using and communicating with students via SLATE. Seamless communication with the International Admissions Coordinator, School of Graduate Studies and New Student and Transitional Programs.
  • Estimate and update the annual cost for immigration purposes.
  • Manage ISSM database for nonresident alien student population and initiate reports as needed. Ensure daily transfer of data from Banner to ISSM for final submission to SEVIS by PDSO and DSO.
  • Manage the intlprog email account and respond accordingly to inquiries.
  • Manage the process (what documents, how long is kept, etc.) and maintain international student files according to SEVP and USI data standards.
  • Monitor, implement, and communicate SEVIS reportable changes such as address changes, employment, etc.
  • Compile data from a variety of sources and prepare reports as directed (SEVIS initial students, OPT students, graduated students, annual reports, unit reviews, and other reports) and as needed.
  • Maintain International Events Database and Post-Admissions database.
Programming
  • Develop campus and community events and activities which align with the University’s strategic goals, in cooperation with other USI offices and organizations (ex:
    Center for Campus Life, Recreation Fitness Wellness Center, Student Organizations, CAPS, Housing, Academic Programs, New Student and Transitional Programs, World Languages and Cultures, and other academic departments, etc.) and subsequent assessment. Ensure advertisement on all platforms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinate the Friendship Family Program, Small World Program, Cultural Activities, and other programs and workshops designed to meet the unique needs of international students.
  • Plan, organize and chaperone day or longer trips to regional areas of interest and provide support as needed following university travel and risk management requirements.
  • Coordinate events for the annual National International Education Week (Fall) and International Week (Spring), including the annual International Food Expo.
  • Implement needs assessment as determined by the Executive Director and propose improvements of processes and services based on data.
  • Assist with campus internationalization and global Efforts through Outreach Program.
  • Provide cultural trainings for faculty and staff.
Orientation
  • Advertise, hire, train and supervise international orientation leaders as well as their programming efforts over the academic year.
  • Develop and implement the orientation program for new international students (Fall, Summer, and Spring terms) including pre-departure orientation and ongoing orientation support post-arrival. Coordinate space and meals for events with all responsible parties (ex. Special Events, SODEXO, speakers, etc.).
  • Implementing assessment for orientation feedback and using data to develop reports and recommendations to improve the process.
  • Follow best practices to create engaging onboarding for students and update training modules for in-person and online orientation.
Social Media and Marketing
  • Develop and produce electronic newsletter/communication for international students; manage the CIP social media and assist in creating social media annual strategic plan with IEP and Study Abroad.
  • Update the CIP website and printed materials as needed and regularly.
  • Design publicity and promotional materials for campus and community events sponsored by Center for International Programs.
