The Early Learning Assistant Teacher, under the direction of the Early Learning Director and Early Learning Lead Teacher, is responsible for assisting in guiding and instructing children through implementation of a developmentally appropriate daily program of activities promoting each child's affective, cognitive, physical, perceptual‑motor, communicative and social competence. The position involves working with the Lead Teacher to enhance a team‑teaching approach, ensuring safe and healthful care and management of children in a nurturing environment.

Responsibilities also include maintaining open communication with families, program staff, and community resources.

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
• Complete required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high‑risk activities and supervising youth.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Ensure high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and risk management policies.
• Assist in planning long and short‑range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
• Meet the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child.
• Maintain confidentiality related to children, families and staff.
• Speak with families in a friendly, courteous and respectful manner.
• Actively pursue training, learning opportunities and certifications related to the position; maintain current certifications and trainings required.
• Maintain a classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy; keep equipment and materials in good repair and stored safely and orderly.
• Maintain a physically and mentally safe environment; children must always be in the presence of staff.
• Follow the appropriate dress code set forth by the association.
• Attend all required staff meetings and provide input on programming issues.
• Assist with maintaining all applicable licensing regulations.
• Adhere to State of Indiana child‑care licensing rules and regulations.
• Be and set an example of excellence to other staff, maintaining professionalism and loyalty.
• Accept that this job description is subject to change depending on program needs by the Early Learning Director and Child Care Executive Branch Director.

Must be an active program leader and participate in physical activities included in our program components. While performing job duties, the employee may bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, require finger dexterity, grasp, repetitive motions, talk, hear and visual acuity. Ability to stand for long periods. The noise level is usually moderate to noisy.
