Salas O’Brien is seeking an Electrical Engineer responsible for designing electrical systems, including DCS and PLC control systems, low voltage power distribution, networking and communications design, and process controls within industrial and utility infrastructure spaces.
Responsibilities- Oversee projects from conceptual design through completion, collaborating with other engineers and design team members.
- Leverage in‑depth knowledge of PLCs and DCSs, as well as Safety Instrumented System (SIS) hardware selection, configuration, network architecture design, and software applications.
- Participate in Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) reviews.
- Design systems in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC – NFPA
70). - Prepare instrumentation datasheets and maintain an up‑to‑date instrument list.
- Support design and coordination reviews with clients and other project team members.
- Support plant construction, commissioning, and start‑up projects.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers across various disciplines and projects.
- Mentor and train team members, supporting professional development.
- Review and develop project design standards and best practices.
- Prepare estimates of labor, time, and cost for control system projects.
- Evaluate technical bids for instrumentation and related equipment.
- Work closely with vendors for technical reviews and production data.
- Ensure project adherence to budget and schedule.
- Manage change management of project scope.
- Travel up to 20% of the time to client locations across the United States.
- U.S. bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field (or equivalent foreign degree).
- 5 + years of experience designing electrical systems for industrial manufacturing facilities and utility infrastructure.
- Experience with industrial instrumentation and controls.
- Experience with PLCs and DCSs.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or willingness to pursue one.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT preferred but not required.
