Frontier-Kemper, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our office in Evansville, IN.
Senior Mechanical DesignerAs a Senior Mechanical Designer at Frontier-Kemper, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for developing detailed mechanical designs, models, and drawings for heavy civil construction, mining, industrial, or infrastructure projects. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and field personnel to create practical, cost-effective, and code-compliant mechanical systems and equipment. The Senior Mechanical Designer will be given responsibility to direct other team members and coordinate scopes among multi-disciplinary groups.
While not a managerial role, it will require leadership and initiative to ensure deliverables are being completed and deadlines are being met. The Senior Mechanical Designer utilizes CAD software to produce design documentation, support project execution, and ensure designs meet project requirements, safety standards, and client specifications.
- Coordinate feedback and requirements from internal and external sources to determine the best path forward for various mechanical designs.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to solve problems and create solutions.
- Be willing and capable to assist with Civil / Structural / Electrical work where particular project needs arise.
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs, layouts, and fabrication drawings using CAD software.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, assemblies, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers and project teams to develop design concepts and solutions.
- Produce equipment layouts, piping designs, structural support details, and installation drawings.
- Perform design calculations and assist with engineering analysis as needed.
- Coordinate designs with civil, structural, electrical, and construction teams to ensure project integration.
- Review project specifications, standards, and client requirements to ensure compliance.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from stakeholders.
- Support procurement by preparing material takeoffs and equipment specifications.
- Assist with field investigations, site visits, and construction support activities.
- Revise drawings and documentation based on field conditions, vendor information, and project changes.
- Ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency of all design deliverables.
- Maintain drawing and document control in accordance with company procedures.
- Promote safety-focused design practices throughout project development.
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 6+ years of mechanical design experience in industrial, construction, manufacturing, or infrastructure environments.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor, Revit, or similar CAD software.
- Ability to create 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, manufacturing processes, and drafting standards.
- Experience with piping systems, conveyance systems, underground tunneling or mining is a benefit.
- Familiarity with GD&T and engineering specifications.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with heavy civil construction, mining, or industrial projects preferred.
- Civil / Structural design experience is not required but a benefit.
- Working knowledge of applicable safety and industry standards such as OSHA, ASME, and ANSI preferred.
