Job Summary
The Guest Services Attendant serves as a frontline position that is responsible for assisting guests on a day-to-day basis to ensure zoo guests have an enjoyable visit.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis part-time position deals directly with guests and has a variety of functions including the following:
- Guest Services Entry: operates a computerized point-of-sale system for both ticketing and membership sales, collects data, processes transactions, answers phones, assists with scooter rentals and more
- Gift Shop: operates a computerized point-of-sale system, stocks, straightens, cleans and maintains an overall quality appearance of the shop
- Attractions: conducts paddle boat rentals, carousel rides and Budgie Aviary
- Experiences: conducts the public feedings including giraffe, budgie and penguin feedings as well as the non-feeding experiences such as the Contact Zoo and African Rift
- Tram Tours: drives and provides tours for one of the zoo’s three trams
- Birthday Parties: serves as a host for birthday parties including set up, tear down and provides a guided tour
- Facility Rentals & Special Events: assists with set up, tear down and working certain events and rentals
- Janitorial and Trash removal: conducts general cleaning and seeing that the park maintains an overall welcoming experience, free of trash and litter
Candidates must have good communication skills, must be friendly and be able to deal with the public in a positive fashion, must be neat in appearance and be able to pay attention to detail; computer and retail experience is a plus for certain areas. Valid driver license required for driving the tram.
Education and ExperienceThere are no requirements for schooling, but candidates must be at least 14 years of age.
Work Environment andPhysical Requirements
Candidates must be able to work outside in heat and other adverse weather conditions. Some areas require walking, standing for 2 hours or more and being able to lift items up to 30 pounds. Employer is willing to work around school and personal schedules, but candidates must be flexible and able to work some nights, holidays and weekends. Positions often require training other new employees and working with volunteers.
Maximum of 29 hours per week available.
