Purpose
To plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Automation Department related to machine efficiency, maintenance activities, standardization, and cost control.
Responsibilities
1. Set priorities and direct the Automation Departments in day-to-day activities. Cast a vision of continuous improvement and develop capital investment strategies to ensure reliable and cost-effective operation.
2. Develop and manage the Automation Department's expenses and capital budgets.
3. Ensure automation equipment is maintained and in safe operating condition. Evaluate existing and new equipment including OEM vendor qualifications.
4. Review and provide technical advice to maintain and revise preventative maintenance programs. Assist with planning, project management, and resource allocation to ensure preventative maintenance compliance.
5. Develop, communicate, budget, and implement capital projects that will improve safety, reduce costs, improve operating efficiency, and improve plant systems.
6. Establish and track yearly goals for continuous improvement.
7. Serve as a technical leader, mentor, and subject matter expert and effectively communicate with plant, regional, divisional, and corporate leadership.
8. Evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly downtime and efficiency reports to determine productivity levels and identify improvement opportunities.
9. Work cross functionally with all departments to track plant performance, identify opportunities, coordinate activities, and implement solutions.
10. Maintain and enforce all company safety, environmental, and department of health requirements.
11. Oversee hiring, training, and development of technical employees within the Automation Department. Evaluate personnel merits for annual pay increases and make recommendations to leadership.
12. Tasks assigned by the Plant Director.
Authorities
1. Pause activity and notify Safety lead in any facility regarding instances of potentially unsafe work environments or employee and supplier practices
2. Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any non-conformity of product or quality systems.
3. Identify, communicate, initiate, and track actions for continual improvement to products, processes, facilities, and systems.
4. Request capital project funds using the Capital Expenditure database.
5. Enter purchase requisitions and manage capital spending using JD Edwards software.
6. Review and approve purchase requisitions made by direct reports.
7. Manage work order entries with CMMS(JDE).
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
2. 5+ years of maintenance supervisory work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
3. Advanced knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and pc/plc based control systems.
4. Proven ability to lead, motivate, and direct employees.
5. Strong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
