Under the direction of the Physician and the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for seeing patients in an after‑hours orthopedic urgent care setting. If working full time there would be an opportunity to assist in the operating room and work in clinic to see patients.
Will consider part time or full time candidates based on the following schedules:
Part Time – Monday–Thursday 4 PM–8 PM
Full Time – Monday and Thursday 8 AM–8 PM, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 4 PM–8 PM
Essential Functions- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute orthopedic injuries and musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., fractures, sprains, strains, sports injuries, minor dislocations).
- Perform focused physical examinations and interpret diagnostic imaging (X‑ray; MRI/CT familiarity preferred).
- Order and review laboratory and imaging studies as clinically indicated.
- Administer joint injections.
- Dictate information about patient visits.
- Write therapy orders and prescriptions.
- Perform procedures including splinting and casting, fracture reduction (as appropriate), joint injections and aspirations, wound care and minor laceration repair.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising orthopedic surgeons.
- Provide patient education regarding injury care, rehabilitation, and follow‑up.
- Ensure timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Orthopedic Clinic Coverage – Evaluate follow‑up and post‑operative patients, assist with pre‑operative assessments and care coordination, manage chronic musculoskeletal conditions under physician supervision.
- Assist in taking first call as needed.
- Assist with sports coverage as needed.
- Serve as surgical first assist for orthopedic procedures.
- Participate in perioperative patient management.
- Conduct hospital rounds as needed.
- Graduate of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current, unrestricted licensure or ability to obtain.
- Board certification (AANP/ANCC for FNP; NCCPA for PA).
- DEA registration (or eligibility).
- BLS and ACLS certification.
- Strong clinical decision‑making skills and ability to work independently.
- 1–3 years of orthopedic, urgent care, emergency medicine, or sports medicine experience.
- Experience with fracture management, casting, splinting, and joint injections.
- OR first assist experience (for expanded role).
- Clinical excellence in musculoskeletal assessment and treatment.
- Efficiency and adaptability in a walk‑in urgent care setting.
- Collaborative team approach with physicians and clinical staff.
- Strong procedural skills.
- Excellent patient communication and education skills.
- Commitment to high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
