Job TitleRegistered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Ortho/Neuro/Trauma)
LocationEvansville, Indiana
Schedule / Job TypeContract (13 or 20 weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift (12-hour shifts, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 guaranteed hours per week (48 hours available upon request) | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday required
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed Ortho/Neuro/Trauma unit serving trauma, orthopedic (hip/femur fractures), and neurological (spine, neck, back, rib fractures) patient populations
- Perform strong neurological assessments, log rolling, and application of assistive devices including back braces and immobilizers
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; perform peripheral IV insertion
- Float within skillset to a nearby campus with a minimum of 2 hours notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible
- May be required to precept students and new hires in a teaching hospital environment
- Document accurately using EPIC electronic health record system (checkoff class required upon start)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in an ortho, neuro, or trauma setting
- At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Current active compact RN license
- AHA BLS certification (must be current and attached at time of submittal)
- NIHSS certification (must be current and attached at time of submittal)
- Recent EPIC charting experience required
- Experience with chest tube and indwelling drain management, drip management (heparin, lasix, protonix), epidural management, PEG/NG tubes, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/behavioral health, and wound care (packing, wound vacs)
- Step-down experience (required for telemetry test administered to travelers)
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
- Supportive unit culture where travel nurses are treated as part of the permanent team, with stable and experienced unit leadership
- Guaranteed hours per week (except during designated holiday closures), providing schedule predictability throughout your contract
