Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Evansville, IN | Acute Care

Contract (13 Weeks) | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week (48-Hour Option Available Upon Request) | Onsite

• Provide observation-level medical-surgical nursing care for a diverse patient population including cardiac, neurological, post-surgical, GI/urology, and detox/CIWA patients
• Perform cardiac cath recovery (femoral/TR bands), NIHSS and neuro assessments, and dysphagia screenings
• Initiate and titrate drips including Heparin and Insulin; manage indwelling drains, straight cath/foley care, and NG tube insertion
• Administer and document blood products; apply strong assessment and critical thinking skills across all patient encounters
• Float within skillset to alternate campuses as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours' notice provided for cross-campus floats
• May be required to precept nursing students and new hires in this teaching hospital environment

• Active, current Compact RN License required
• AHA BLS Certification required
• NIHSS Certification required
• Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• At least one prior travel nursing assignment required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
• Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

• Experience with cardiac cath recovery, post-surgical care (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, kidney stones), and neuro patient populations
• Familiarity with observation-unit workflows and mixed acuity patient management
• Experience managing a patient ratio of 1:4–6 in a fast-paced acute care environment
