• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data; respond to abnormalities.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments with a focus on cardiac care.
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during cardiac-related procedures and examinations.
• Maintain patient comfort and safety; observe patients and document significant conditions and reactions.
• Respond to life-saving situations according to nursing standards, policies, procedures, and cardiac emergency protocols.
• Document nursing history and physical assessments for telemetry patients.
• Initiate patient education plans focused on cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for telemetry patients.
• Maintain confidentiality of patients and clients; adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

• One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN (or equivalent)
• Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
• Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
• Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC)

• Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification
• NIHSS Certification
• Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position

A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients transitioning from intensive care to medical-surgical or general inpatient units. These patients require frequent monitoring and specialized nursing interventions. They assess and manage complex patient needs, administer medications and treatments, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, patient-centered care.

• Monitor and interpret telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond appropriately.
• Administer medications and treatments per approved nursing techniques with a focus on cardiac care.
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during cardiac-related procedures.
• Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients.
• Document nursing history and physical assessments; communicate patient status to supervisor or physician.
• Respond to life-saving situations according to protocols specific to cardiac emergencies.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure comprehensive care for telemetry patients.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital safety protocols and regulatory standards.
• Adhere to infection control guidelines and apply relevant safety practices.
