Job DescriptionThe Counter Sales Level 2 provides friendly and courteous over-the-counter direct sales to customers, takes orders in-person and by phone, and supports the overall performance of the Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts store operations. Goes the extra mile to provide an energetic focus and promotion of sales programs as well as customer and team-oriented activities. Incentives may be available for their Sales activities, which can cover aftermarket automotive replacement parts, and may include the sale of heavy-duty parts, auto and industrial paint, and body shop supplies and equipment.
May serve as mentor to junior Counter Salesperson and/or Delivery Driver.
- Consistently provides courteous, respectful, and kind conduct toward every employee and customer.
- Demonstrates an understanding of RPI store systems and processes.
- Displays an above average understanding of auto parts and is able to make recommendations to customers to meet their needs.
- Cooperate and coordinate well with coworkers and as a team member.
- Perform job duties in compliance with legal, regulatory, and company safety guidelines, practices, and policies.
- Maintain neat, clean, and professional appearance.
- Provide exceptional customer service including assisting in determining parts needed, offering options to solve customer problems, and diffusing situations involving an upset or dissatisfied customer.
- Demonstrates willingness to partner with more experienced or higher level co-workers to help resolve issues and/or concerns quickly to meet customer demands.
- Research part's availability through computer and catalogs for stock numbers, inventory status, and pricing.
- Willing to serve as a mentor to junior counter sales and/or delivery driver.
- Locate and pull parts for orders, check in, put up, straighten, dust, and rearrange stock as needed.
- Handle cash and credit transactions; properly invoice/credit customer accounts.
- Prioritize the order of delivery items and assign deliveries to drivers, if applicable.
- Correctly handle new and defective core returns from customers, insure proper customer credit and complete necessary paperwork.
- Open and/or close the store if given key holder responsibility.
- Work home store inventory/assist in other location's inventory, if assigned.
- Clean (pick-up trash, sweep, mop, etc.) and maintain inside and outside of building area.
- Takes initiative to complete tasks and find additional work when finished with primary duties.
- May assist manager in completing end-of-day processing.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent experience or motivation to pursue a GED. Three to four years of professional automotive parts experience or over five years of hobbyist automotive parts experience preferred.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer knowledge including web browsing and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid driver's license (Class E required for all Missouri locations) and clean driving record.
