The Mobile Diesel Technician II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, and light mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The role involves advanced diagnostics and repairs while continually learning new mechanical skills and techniques. Successful candidates meet all company policies and achieve high‑level performance metrics.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment types using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, and lifts/jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings to Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and meet or approach standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience—or an equivalent combination such as a higher degree or certification and 5 years of experience.
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Complete a DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical (or provide a DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Hold a valid state driver's license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
