Field Service Technician
This Field Service Technician role focuses on installing, commissioning, and servicing automatic unloading equipment and custom automation solutions for injection molding manufacturers. Based out of the Evansville, IN office, you will support customers primarily across Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, with occasional travel across North America. You serve as the primary technical contact during installations, service calls, and equipment training, ensuring customer production lines stay up and running.
Your work directly influences customer satisfaction, retention, and the company's reputation in the automation market.
- Install and commission automatic unloading equipment and custom automation systems at customer manufacturing facilities, ensuring all systems meet specifications and internal standards before warranties are activated.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on automation equipment and related systems to quickly restore customer production lines and minimize downtime.
- Perform on-site adjustments, mechanical repairs, and component replacements using hand and power tools in industrial environments.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints to correctly install, align, and configure equipment at customer sites.
- Provide hands-on training to customer employees on equipment operation, routine maintenance, and safe use of automation systems.
- Deliver remote technical support via phone and email when not on-site, helping customers resolve operational and maintenance issues.
- Complete detailed service reports, installation documentation, and warranty paperwork accurately and on time, keeping internal teams informed of product issues and customer feedback.
- Prepare for upcoming installations and service visits by organizing tools, parts, documentation, and travel logistics while working from the Evansville office.
- Travel 3–4 nights per week to customer locations across Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and potentially North America, representing the company professionally at all times.
- Use basic electrical knowledge to safely work around motors, control circuits, wiring, and other electrical components during troubleshooting and repair.
- Collaborate with internal teams by communicating recurring technical issues, customer concerns, and opportunities for product or service improvements.
- Maintain a high level of customer communication on-site, clearly explaining findings, repairs, and next steps to build trust and confidence.
- Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working in industrial environments with moving machinery and varying conditions.
- Manage your own schedule in the field, prioritize service calls, and ensure timely completion of installations and repairs, even when projects run longer than planned.
- Support customer training initiatives by demonstrating proper equipment setup, operation, and maintenance techniques to various skill levels of personnel.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience in environments such as manufacturing, automotive, HVAC, industrial maintenance, construction, or similar fields.
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including diagnosing issues under time pressure when production lines are down.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints and translate them into accurate physical installations in the field.
- Proficiency with a wide range of hand tools and power tools used in mechanical installation, repair, and adjustment, with at least 2–3 years of regular tool use in a work setting.
- Willingness and ability to travel 3–4 nights per week throughout Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and potentially across North America.
- Basic electrical knowledge or exposure to motors, control circuits, wiring, or basic electrical troubleshooting, with a strong willingness to learn more advanced concepts.
