Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Body Shop Foreman to lead the day-to-day work of our body and paint team while remaining hands-on in the shop. This position is responsible for coordinating repair work, supporting and directing technicians, maintaining quality standards, and helping ensure vehicles move through the shop efficiently and on schedule.
The ideal candidate has strong body repair and painting experience, understands the complete repair and refinishing process, and is comfortable leading from the shop floor. This is a working foreman position for someone who can solve problems, develop technicians, and step in to perform repairs when needed.
- Work hands-on alongside technicians performing body repair, collision repair, paint preparation, and refinishing.
- Lead, train, and provide daily direction to body and paint technicians.
- Assign work based on technician skill level, workload, job requirements, and production priorities.
- Review work orders and communicate repair expectations with technicians.
- Monitor job progress and ensure repairs are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Inspect body work, surface preparation, and finished paint for quality before vehicles leave the shop.
- Assist technicians with difficult repairs, body panel replacement, alignment, sanding, masking, priming, paint application, and refinishing issues.
- Coordinate the flow of vehicles through body repair, preparation, paint, and final assembly.
- Work with management, estimators, and parts personnel to keep jobs moving and minimize downtime.
- Identify parts, materials, equipment, or information needed to prevent production delays.
- Troubleshoot repair and paint issues and help determine appropriate solutions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, productive, and safe body shop and paint area.
- Hold the team accountable for quality, productivity, attendance, safety, and workmanship.
- Help train and develop technicians to improve their skills and capabilities.
- Lead by example and be willing to work directly on jobs when needed.
- Strong experience in commercial or automotive body repair and painting.
- Experience with collision repair, body panel replacement, surface preparation, and refinishing.
- Previous leadership, foreman, or lead technician experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of paint preparation, mixing, application, blending, and finishing techniques.
- Understanding of proper body repair, metal finishing, and refinishing procedures.
- Ability to identify quality issues and ensure completed repairs meet established standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot repair and paint problems and provide technical direction to other technicians.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple jobs, technicians, and priorities throughout the day.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable holding others accountable.
- Commercial truck, trailer, bus, RV, van, or other commercial vehicle experience is a plus.
We're looking for a hands-on body and paint professional who can lead from the shop floor. This person should take pride in quality workmanship, understand how to keep work moving efficiently, and be willing to step in and help wherever needed.
The right person will be able to balance leadership with production, keeping technicians productive, helping solve problems, maintaining quality standards, and taking ownership of getting vehicles repaired and refinished correctly and on time.
