Job Description
English Language Learner Coach – Everett Public Schools, Sumner G. Whittier School – Everett, Massachusetts. The English Language Learner (ELL) Coach supports teachers across content areas in grades PreK-8 by enhancing ESL instruction and co‑teaching implementation. The Coach develops differentiated coaching plans based on data and implementation cycles of high‑quality instructional materials to increase academic achievement in reading, writing, listening, and speaking for ELL students.
RequiredEducation / Experience
- Valid Massachusetts Teacher certification in ESL/ELL PreK-8
- Knowledge of standards‑based instruction for ELLs
- A Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- A graduate or undergraduate degree in ESL, TESOL, or Applied Linguistics
- At least five years of teaching experience with strong evidence of exemplary ESL/ELL instructional practices
- Experience providing professional development in a variety of topics to teachers
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students with an emphasis on building strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process
- Ability to collect, interpret, and disseminate data to teachers in order to improve instruction and learning for English language learners
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Familiarity with the Everett Public Schools

184 days per academic year.
Salary$63,280 – $121,994 per year (SY 25-26 pay range).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Collaborate with central administration instructional leadership to create strategic plans for instructional improvement focused on ELLs, including implementation of high‑quality materials and the WIDA Frameworks.
- Meet with principals, special education leaders, and teachers to analyze MCAS, ACCESS, and quarterly data to identify strengths and needs and to strategize coaching cycles.
- Collaborate on school schedules to maximize ESL direct instruction minutes.
- Model differentiated instruction and content‑specific teaching strategies to increase student‑centered instruction for ELLs.
- Conduct observation/feedback cycles to improve instruction for ELLs and high‑leverage practices in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Strengthen the co‑teaching model with classroom and special education teachers through coaching, modeling, co‑planning, and co‑teaching.
- Provide professional development on differentiating for subgroups such as SLIFE, long‑term ELLs, and newcomers with high literacy in a native language.
- Engage in curriculum review and support new curriculum implementation.
- Attend student support meetings for students below progress targets, using Multi‑Tiered System of Support.
- Collaborate with ETL and special education teachers on best practices for dually identified students.
- Plan and facilitate ACCESS and MCAS testing for ELLs in collaboration with leadership.
- Facilitate common planning time to support data analysis and teacher planning.
- Consult with teachers to scaffold high‑leverage instructional practices, including reading and writing for grade‑level standards and WIDA Frameworks, and to develop sustained speaking activities and academic discourse.
- Integrate coaching throughout the year to amplify district and school‑wide instructional focuses and accelerate ELL achievement.
- Evaluate formative and summative assessments to gauge ELL progress and identify areas for scaffolding or reteaching.
- Create lessons using WIDA resources to develop differentiated language objectives and scaffolds.
- Model lessons for departments and individual teachers that develop ELL higher‑order thinking skills.
- Facilitate and manage shared teacher‑created resources such as anchor charts, sentence frames, and rubrics that support ELL literacy and language needs.
