ANTICIPATED K-8 VISUAL ARTS TEACHER

DESCRIPTION:

Everett Public Schools Art teachers must demonstrate expertise and knowledge in a range of visual 2-D & 3-D art techniques, skills and media at the K-8 level. Art teachers are responsible for utilizing pedagogical strategies to engage diverse groups of students in grades K-8 in the visual arts via the district's curricula. Art teachers must exercise a genuine passion and dedication for fostering and growing students' artistic talents and technical skills through visual arts, while being a motivated, collaborative and a positive team player as part of the Art Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction & Curriculum Development:
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging, hands-on art lessons and curricula for all learners including students with disabilities and multilingual learners aligned with Massachusetts DESE Visual Art Frameworks, district's art curricula, and the district's goals.
  • Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st-century skills.
  • Foster a classroom environment and create lessons that promotes creativity, technical skill, experimentation, and self-expression.
  • Regularly and consistently manage and maintain art supplies, materials and art spaces.
Student Engagement & Support:
  • Manage classroom behavior with positive behavior intervention strategies and social-emotional learning strategies that motivate students to create a positive learning culture.
  • Creates and maintains a positive, safe, supportive, organized and inclusive classroom environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.
  • Encourage and support students' artistic growth and development through individualized attention.
    Provide and participate in opportunities for students to participate in art exhibitions, competitions, and community and school art events.
  • Collaborate with guidance counselors and school adjustment counselors to refer students who need social-emotional support.
  • Review education plans and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.
  • Collaborate with Special Education and EL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and Multilingual Learners.
  • Assess the needs of students and evaluate student progress towards standards and benchmarks.
    Maintain a culturally responsive approach to communication with students, student counselors, and families on a regular basis through conferences, quarterly reports, and other means.
Professional Culture, Collaboration & Professional Development:
  • Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to students' needs.
    Maintain excellent communication skills and foster positive professional relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Create and manage ongoing student in-person and virtual art exhibits and displays.
  • Collaborate closely with K-12 Art Department staff in a positive and team-building way on curricula and department related events and other initiatives.
  • Attend all building, department and professional development meetings.
    Participate in all department and building professional activities.
  • Proctor assessments for students on exams, including formative and summative assessments, MCAS, and ACCESS.
  • Support the building and Art Department climate that the Principal, Assistant /Vice Principals and Arts Coordinator establish by supporting all building, district, and Art Department policies.
  • Contribute to school-wide & district wide initiatives and events, which may be assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principals and the Arts Coordinator.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Art Education or Fine Arts.
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching certification in Visual Arts, PreK-8 and/or 5-12..
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts DESE Visual Arts Frameworks instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
