Job Description

Description: Grade 2 teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grade
2. Grade 2 teachers must work collaboratively with the Special Education and English as a Second Language teachers and support staff throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of students. Teachers should be well versed in providing accommodations for students whose IEPs dictate inclusion services in several content area settings. Teachers should also be well versed in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices to support English Learners.

Teachers should have experience and/or training implementing phonics instruction and assessments. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education
  • Massachusetts Teaching Licensure
  • SEI Endorsement

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Education and/or Special Education
  • 3 or more years of teaching experience
  • Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
  • Experience working in an urban public schools setting
  • Coursework in Phonics Instruction and/or Applied Linguistics
  • Value of linguistic diversity and candidates who speak another language

Duties:

  • Plan and facilitate lessons for students aligned with State Standards for Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, Writing and Phonics
  • Use district technology to create engaging lessons linked with 21st Century skills
  • Manage classroom behavior using Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies
  • Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum to promote self-confidence, teamwork, and informed decision making
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for English Learners
  • Incorporate language activities into content instruction including Speaking, Reading and Writing that align with State Standards for Language Proficiency
  • Administer assessments and utilize data to inform instructional decisions targeting academic and linguistic needs (MCAS, ACCESS, DIBELS, and other phonics assessments)
  • Collaborate and co-plan with Special Education and ESL teachers to support Special Education Students and English Learners
  • Proctor assessments for students in grades K-5 on exams including MCAS and ACCESS
  • Communicate with families regularly using culturally responsive strategies
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and participate in relevant professional development to close opportunity gaps in urban education
  • Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students for Social Emotional support
  • Collaborate with Special Education leadership and colleagues to review IEPs and ensure accommodations are delivered
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events as assigned by leaders

Salary: Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association. SY26-27. Salary Range $65,178 - $125,654.
