Job Description

Everett Public Schools is seeking Kindergarten Dual Language teachers, English Learner Coaches, instructional leaders, and building administrators to participate in the Dual Language Summer Institute:
Foundational Planning Team. This institute will support the launch of Everett Public Schools’ new Spanish/English and Portuguese/English Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) programs beginning in the  school year.

The purpose of this work is to establish the instructional, curricular, operational, and family engagement foundations necessary for the successful launch and long-term sustainability of the district's inaugural Dual Language programs. Participants will engage in collaborative planning and professional learning focused on biliteracy development, bilingual instruction, language allocation, curriculum implementation, family engagement, assessment, and program systems.

Grounded in the WIDA 2020 English Language Development Standards Framework, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Dual Language Guidance, the Massachusetts Association for Bilingual Education (MABE) Readiness Continuum, the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education, and district instructional priorities, the team will work together to create the foundational structures necessary for successful program implementation.

The institute will serve as both a professional learning experience and a collaborative planning process designed to build capacity among the educators responsible for launching and supporting the district's new Dual Language programs.

Working Time/Modality

Up to 35 hours in August 2026. The Summer Institute will combine professional learning and collaborative planning to build participants’ knowledge of effective dual language education while developing the foundational systems, instructional resources, and implementation tools needed to launch Everett’s Dual Language programs. Participants will engage in whole-group learning, collaborative work sessions, curriculum planning, and the creation of shared program materials and planning documents.

Team members will be expected to actively contribute to both the learning and planning components of the institute.

Overall Goal

The Summer Institute Team will collaboratively develop resources and implementation tools that may include:

  • A Dual Language Program Vision and Beliefs Statement
  • Language Allocation and Language Use Guidance
  • A Year 1 Kindergarten Dual Language Scope and Sequence
  • Bilingual Unit Maps aligned to district curriculum and program goals
  • Cross-linguistic Transfer Opportunities aligned to instructional units
  • A Biliteracy and Bilingual Instruction Framework
  • WIDA 2020-aligned language planning resources
  • Common instructional routines and classroom expectations
  • Assessment and progress monitoring guidance
  • Family communication and engagement resources
  • Classroom environment expectations for Dual Language settings
  • Administrator and coach implementation look-fors
  • Opening-of-school implementation and professional learning materials

Final deliverables will be determined collaboratively during the institute based on program needs and priorities identified through the planning process.

  • Build understanding of the CAL Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education and the MABE Readiness Continuum.
  • Examine the WIDA 2020 ELD Standards Framework and identify implications for dual language instruction.
  • Establish common expectations for biliteracy development, bilingual instruction, and cross-linguistic transfer.
