Description
Responsible for assisting the public and law enforcement officers in locating information and answering procedural civil and record unit questions. Enters and retrieves information in various law enforcement computer systems. Processes civil and criminal documents, licenses and forms.
Job Duties- Assist law enforcement personnel and the public, in person and on the telephone, by providing information; answer questions and explain services; confirm criminal justice data in accordance with laws and policies.
- Enter, maintain and retrieve data in various law enforcement computer systems; create and update formats, documents and manuals as necessary.
- Receive, research, process and issue permits, licenses, analyze information for legal forms and reports; review documents for accuracy and completeness prior to forwarding to appropriate office; fingerprint citizens and sex offenders as requested.
- Establish and maintain office filing system; enter data on office records manually and/or on computer terminal; purge files in accordance with statutes and office policy.
- Assist with setting up extraditions and cooperative transports; prepare paperwork for service of civil papers; research and verify information for criminal investigations.
- Collect fees for licenses and permits; make change accurately; balance fees.
Job Duties
- May set up photomontages for officers as requested.
- May assist in training other employees.
- May perform the duties of a Lead Law Enforcement Technician, as peak load or backup support, for limited duration.
- May order supplies as needed; may help coordinate repairs of equipment.
One (1) year of work experience in an office setting; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Prior law enforcement related experience is preferred. High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate. Must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrival (DACA) recipient as per RCW 41.14.100.
Minimum 18 years of age, no maximum age. Must pass job‑related tests.
Must pass a Civil Service examination, and pre‑employment examinations including, but not limited to, a complete background investigation, fingerprinting, criminal record check, and a polygraph examination. A psychological evaluation may also be required.
Knowledge and Abilities- Basic knowledge of law enforcement

- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people regardless of age, sex, social, economic, cultural or ethnic backgrounds, including hostile, angry and distraught individuals.
- Accurate keyboard, minimum 35 net words per minute.
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Maintain confidential working information and integrity of data in computer systems.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, staff of other agencies and the public.
- Read, properly interpret and categorize data rapidly and accurately.
- Make technical decisions on critical issues in stressful situations.
- Learn, retain, and explain complex procedures, policies and laws.
- Be accountable for accuracy of work.
Shift, holiday and weekend work is required.

If you work 35 or more hours per week, you will pay these monthly premiums for medical insurance. The County pays the monthly premiums for vision, dental, and basic life insurance. - Regular part‑time employees:
If you work between 20 and 34 hours per week, you will pay pro‑rated monthly premiums for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. The County's contribution toward the premium for an employee in a regular part‑time appointment will be pro‑rated in an amount equal to the F.T.E. percentage the employee is assigned.
