Position Information
Position Title: Student Intern
Department: School Performance and Workforce Development
Location: Washington Service Center (Hillsboro)
Reports To: Program Administrator
Compensation: $17.30 per hour;
Student interns work 4 hours per day.
Program Dates: July 13, 2026 – August 21, 2026
Positions Available: 3 (1 intern each in Communications, Education, Technology)
General DescriptionThis six‑week summer position supports district operations while providing hands‑on experience in one of the following departments: communications, education, or technology. The intern assists senior employees with a variety of tasks, including clerical work and department‑specific projects.
ResponsibilitiesCommunications Department
- Assist in the design and creation of visual content (social media, videos, graphics)
- Support event planning, setup, and management
- Provide support in social media, writing and editing, photos, videos, graphics, media relations
- Perform clerical duties such as documentation, correspondence, phone calls, paper and electronic filing, and meeting preparation
- Preferred: bilingual or biliterate
Education Department
- Assist in creating advertising materials for SPWD events and projects
- Help staff create student‑facing documents on opportunities
- Update contact lists for educational and industry partners
- Assist in organizing and executing events and special projects
- Research and report data for special projects
- Participate in meetings to share information with students, parents, and community partners
- Support clerical duties such as documentation, correspondence, phone calls, filing, and meeting preparation
- Assist with Dual Credit and Career Connected Learning tasks
- Create and organize college and career experiences for high school students
- Participate in industry and community outreach events
Technology Department
- Assist with help desk calls, scheduling, and tickets
- Support maintenance of hardware, software, and other systems
- Troubleshoot issues with equipment (printers, computers)
- Run software updates and backups as requested
- Participate in deployment of new desktops or applications
- Research technology solutions and pricing as required
- Set up video conferencing sessions and other items
- Interact with users and clients as needed
- Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
- Perform other job duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions of staff and supervisors
- Communicates effectively with diverse populations in a culturally relevant and responsive manner
- Creative problem‑solving skills
- Familiarity with computer and internet‑based applications (email, internet software, Google Suite, MS Word)
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
