• Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field like Business Management, Contract Management or Procurement
• CIPS Level 2 or 3 Advanced Certificate in Procurement
• NVQ certifications in Supply Chain Management and Higher National Diploma/Certificate in Procurement

During my time in school, I earned my GCSEs or equivalent, focusing on subjects like Maths, Business Studies, IT, Geography, and Environmental Science. These subjects gave me a strong foundation in analytical thinking, business acumen, and environmental awareness, which have been essential in my career as a Procurement and Business Support Manager at CWM.

Steve's day-to-Day Responsibilities As the Procurement and Business Support Manager at CWM Environmental, I ensure we get the best value for money by managing supplier contracts, both big and small, and supporting various departments. Working alongside my Business Support Assistant, I handle contracts ranging from just a few pounds to multimillion-pound deals. My role also involves ensuring compliance, monitoring supplier performance, and serving as the main point of contact for software vendors and IT providers.

To excel in procurement, you need to be detail-oriented and have a good understanding of contract law. Strong communication is also key, as building relationships with suppliers and stakeholders is a big part of the job. I help identify synergies across departments to reduce costs and improve efficiency, ensuring the smooth flow of data across systems.

What I Love About My Role & Challenges The variety of my work is what keeps me excited. One day I might be diving into waste recycling projects, and the next I’m solving IT issues. No two days are the same, which keeps things fresh and interesting.

However, balancing multiple departments and meeting tight deadlines can be demanding. You need strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations. Building relationships with stakeholders is crucial for overcoming these challenges and often leads to unexpected opportunities.
