PUBLIC WORKS PUBLIC INFORMATION DAY LABORER
$25.00/hour
The City of Everett’s Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Day Laborer. This employment is temporary (up to six months in duration). It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employee's request at the completion of employment. These positions are not provided with City of Everett benefits.
NATUREOF WORK
The work will consist of providing assistance and support to the Public Works Public Information and Education work group. Duties would include, but are not limited to: writing, editing and publishing content for the City's websites; planning and creating construction and project related communications; organization of digital media assets and files; support with media relations; communications-related research; creation of graphical communications and general communications office support.
HOURS40 hours per week
SKILL AND ABILITY TO- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, formats needed to draft, edit, and review content for City websites, news releases and public notifications.
- Create content for special projects, public awareness and involvement programs.
- Perform confidential administrative work of a varied nature including receiving and screening telephone calls; establishing and maintaining files, records, and other information sources needed to facilitate, supporting and documenting office or department activities.
- Have pleasant and professional interaction with supervisor, team members, and the public.
- Understand and follow verbal and written directions and to apply available guidelines to recurring operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite.
- Be consistently available and self-motivated.
- Establish and meet deadlines.
- Support diversity and multi-cultural understanding in the workplace.
- Maintain a work environment free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
- Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and proofreading of a wide range of media.
- A college degree in communications, writing, environmental science or related field is highly desirable.
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and the development of websites is highly desirable.
- Successfully complete a background check.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license
